For the second time this month, the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians has issued a news release (below) to announce the selection of an interim chief of police.
The first release, prepared on January 7, advised that Sgt. Dan Grondin would be in the position "until further notice."
The need to fill the post on an interim basis came about because Police Chief Fred Paquin was suspended last summer after a female tribe member accused him of assaulting her after she rejected what she claimed were unwanted sexual advances.
Paquin denies the woman's claims and will be tried next month in Chippewa County.
