As more than a dozen demonstrators milled outside its offices today, the Sault Star announced it's reversing an earlier decision to discontinue reviews of local drama productions.

The decision was announced to demonstrators around 4:15 p.m. by Peggy Cooper, producer of the Sault Musical Comedy Guild's soon-to-open A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.

"We appreciate the reviews they have done for us in the past, and we look forward to many years of co-operation" Cooper said after the announcement, which drew cheers from demonstrators.

Before today's announcement, the protesters marched along the front and side ditches adjoining the Star's property on Great Northern Road.

"We need reviews, in the local news!" they chanted.

One protester dressed as a nun.

Another appeared as Elvis, while two others were costumed as judges from the play Les Misérables.

In a parking lot, a police cruiser stood ready to maintain the peace.

Star editor John Halucha told SooToday.com that today's decision was not a direct consequence of the protest.

The no-reviews decision had actually been under review for some time, Halucha said, adding that other local drama groups had also approached him to reconsider.

Pull Chain Theatre, in particular, came to the newspaper with convincing arguments, Halucha said.
