Sault hosting Ontario region Startup Canada Awards

StartUP Sault and the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation (SSMEDC) have partnered with Startup Canada to host the 2018 Startup Canada Awards - Ontario Region.

The event, which launched in 2014 and is now marking its fifth year, is the hallmark forum celebrating outstanding achievement in Canada’s entrepreneurship and innovation community.

The awards celebration, emceed by Jasmyn Rowley of Sootoday.com, is taking place on Wednesday, June 20 at the Machine Shop from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The evening includes networking and appetizers. It’s free to attend, though registration is required. Space is limited. Register here.

Marie to celebrate their achievements.”

Every year, the Startup Canada Awards attract hundreds of nominations and celebrate more than 60 entrepreneurs, innovators and support organizations from coast-to-coast-to-coast. The events draw over 1,500 attendees at regional and national ceremonies. Past recipients include:

  • Anne Whelan, president and CEO of Seafair Capital Inc.;
  • The Right Honourable David Johnston, former Governor General of Canada;
  • The Hadhad Family, founders of Peace by Chocolate;
  • Nicole Verkindt, founder of Offset Market Exchange;
  • Clearbanc;
  • Hootsuite; and
  • Patrice Mousseau, founder of Satya Organics Inc.

Award recipients join the prestigious Startup Canada Awards Alumni Network, a platform to elevate their ongoing impact on the country and to provide inspiration for the next generation of Canadian entrepreneurs.

The 2018 regional recipients will also be contenders for the National Startup Canada Awards, which will be announced at a Grand Finale ceremony in Ottawa on Thursday, Oct. 18.
