NEWS RELEASE

SAULT STE. MARIE BRANCH OF THE CANADIAN RED CROSS

*************************

City firefighters are being recognized by the Sault Ste. Marie Branch of the Canadian Red Cross.

Red Cross volunteers will visit fire halls on Wednesday December 5, 2012, at 2 p.m. to bring Christmas baked goods as an appreciation to Sault Fire Services for the working relationship the two groups have during Sault Ste Marie and area residential fires.

The Canadian Red Cross is grateful for its excellent working relationship with Fire Services in Sault Ste. Marie.

The Sault Ste. Marie and District Branch of the Canadian Red Cross responds to calls form Fire Services to attend the scene of fires where residents may need clothing, food and shelter assistance.

Those in need receive vouchers in order to fill their needs for the first 72 hours after an emergency such as a house fire.

The local branch has 89 volunteers on its Personal Disaster Assistance and Disaster Response Teams.

They  have responded to approximately 12 calls from Fire Services so far this year, and helped more than 40 individuals receive food, clothing and shelter at a critical time in people’s lives.

Anyone interested in finding about more about volunteering or making a donation to the current Hurricane
Sandy effort can do so at the Allard Street Branch of the Red Cross during business hours or anytime online:
