*************************** Collision between truck and bike, injuries sustained

(Richards Landing, St. Joseph Island, Ontario) - On Monday July 26, 2004 at approximately 12:45 p.m., the East Algoma – Thessalon OPP were advised of a collision between a boat trailer and a bicycle on Highway 548 west of Richards Landing, Ontario.

The bicycle was traveling northbound on a private driveway and was turning east onto Highway 548.

The bicycle failed to stop before turning, lost control and struck a boat trailer that was being towed west on Highway 548.

The bicycle rider, Sarina MERLING (14) of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario was transported to Mathews Memorial Hospital in Richards Landing by ambulance.

MERLING sustained a broken leg.

The driver of the truck, James STEPHANI (44) of Amherst Wisconsin did not sustain any injuries in the collision.

No charges have been laid.
