NEWS RELEASE

SAULT AREA HOSPITAL

****************************** Longer wait times possible for non-urgent cases on Sunday and Monday

August 27 – Due to possible physician shortages in the Emergency Department (ED) Fast Track Clinic on Sunday August 28 and Monday August 29, patients with non-urgent or less urgent conditions may experience longer than normal wait times for treatment.

Patients presenting to the ED with urgent conditions will continue to be seen on a priority basis.

We apologize for any delays and will endeavour to see patients as quickly as possible while continuing to deliver safe, quality care.

In the meantime, we will continue in our efforts to secure additional staffing for this period.

Residents are encouraged to consider alternate options for any non-urgent health care needs.

This includes calling Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000 for free access to a registered nurse who can assess symptoms and help residents to decide next steps.

Individuals in Sault Ste. Marie and the surrounding region may also take advantage of other medical resources available to them in the area, including the SaultCare Medical Clinic in Cambrian Mall, the Family Medicine and Drop-In Clinic located in the Market Mall and the Group Health Centre Same Day Clinic (for GHC patients only).

For those patients with more urgent conditions coming to the hospital, please note that Emergency Department is located at the very south end of the building, with its own separate, dedicated entrance and parking lot immediately adjacent. For sake of convenience, it is recommended that you use this entrance and lot.

When coming to the ED, please bring along your OHIP card and all medications in the original containers if possible.
