Sault Area Hospital honoured by Ontario Health

This marks the third consecutive year that Sault Area Hospital has received Ontario Health's Provincial Conversion Rate Award

Sault Area Hospital has been recognized by Ontario Health (Trillium Gift of Life Network) for its efforts to integrate organ and tissue donation into quality end-of-life care.

SAH received the Provincial Conversion Rate Award for meeting or exceeding the 63 per cent target rate which is set out by Ontario Health.

One of 23 hospitals to receive the award, SAH reached 70 per cent and this marks the third year the hospital has received the award.

The rate is the percentage of potential organ donors (patients who die in a hospital setting and are deemed medically suitable for donation) who went on to become actual donors.

“We are honoured to receive this recognition,” Mindy Lindstedt, Director of Clinical Programs at SAH, said in a prepared statement. “While our team at SAH does this challenging work - our patients and their loved ones are also deserving of recognition and thanks as, without their support, this work would not be possible.”

SAH also received the Eligible Approach Rate Award, which is given to hospitals that meet or exceed the eligible approach rate target of 90 per cent set out by Ontario Health and recognizes hospitals that demonstrate leading practices by facilitating a donation discussion with eligible patients/families of patients at the end of life. SAH is one of 22
hospitals to receive this award.

“SAH has made an outstanding contribution to organ and tissue donation in Ontario, and this award is a reflection of that important work,” Judy Linton, Chief Nursing Executive and Clinical Institutes and Quality Programs Executive. Ontario Health said in a prepared statement.
