Sault and area school boards OK school calendars for 2023-24

Four local school boards have approved their school calendars for the next school year starting in September.

Algoma District School Board (ADSB), Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon (CSC Nouvelon), Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord and Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board (HSCDSB) have approved the School Year Calendar for 2023-24.

The boards said they have worked together to produce a common calendar, facilitating the co-ordination of services such as student transportation.

Each board adopted the calendar, consisting of a 194-day school year, following its own consultation process, the boards said in a joint news release.

Their respective calendars will be submitted to the Ministry of Education for final approval.

The boards said the 2023-24 school year calendar will be similar though not identical for all English and French-language schools and all public and Catholic school boards in the Algoma and Sudbury districts including Blind River, Chapleau, Dubreuilville, Elliot Lake, Espanola, Hornepayne, Manitoulin Island, Massey, the North Shore, Sault Ste. Marie, Spanish, Wawa and White River.

Key dates in the elementary and secondary school calendars include:

• CSC Nouvelon, Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord and HSCDSB school staff begin on Friday, Sept. 1, 2023
• ADSB school staff begin on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023
• ADSB, CSC Nouvelon, Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord and HSCDSB students begin classes on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2023
• The Christmas holiday schedule is set from Monday, Dec. 25, 2023 to Friday, Jan. 5, 2024 inclusive.
• March Break for CSC Nouvelon, Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord and HSCDSB is scheduled from Friday, March 8, to Friday, March 15, 2024.
• March Break for ADSB is scheduled from Monday, March 11, to Friday, March 15, 2024.
• The last day of classes for staff and students is Friday, June 28, 2024 

Examination Days for secondary schools are Jan. 26 to Feb. 1, 2024 (5 days) and June 24 to 28, 2024 (5 days).
