INSTITUTE OF CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS OF ONTARIO

Chartered accountants recognize their best and brightest under 40

TORONTO - Sault Ste. Marie Chartered Accountant Armand Capisciolto has been recognized by the profession as up-and-coming talent with both laudable past achievements and a very bright future.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario’s Award of Distinction honours those CAs who have made an early impact, bringing distinction to themselves and to their profession through leadership and achievement in their professional, community and/ or personal lives.

Armand is a 1998 chartered accountant who works as the National Accounting Standards Partner at BDO Canada LLP in Toronto.

After graduating with Distinction from Wilfrid Laurier University with an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration, he quickly moved up through a variety of positions at what was then BDO Dunwoody LLP in Sault Ste. Marie, followed by a stint with Ernst and Young LLP in Bermuda.

Upon his return to BDO, Armand achieved recognition for his knowledge regarding accounting standards becoming National Accounting Standards Partner for the firm in 2008 at age 34, and serving on CICA committees covering International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), financial reporting and governance, and internal controls.

Working remotely from Sault Ste. Marie, Armand is active in his community, currently as a director of the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation.

“To be recognized by the Institute is an unbelievable honour,” said Armand. “I feel very lucky, as I truly enjoy the work I do. To be recognized for something you enjoy doing is extremely rewarding.”

As the award is intended to honour younger CAs, the age of 40 years has been chosen as a cut-off.

As a result, only those CAs born in 1971 or later were eligible for consideration for 2011.

The ICAO Award of Distinction recipients were chosen following a rigorous nomination and selection process which culminated in a secret-ballot vote of the Council.

An Award Review Committee - comprised of five current and former Council members - first evaluated all nominations and made its recommendation on each nominee to assist Council members, who then made their own independent evaluation of the nominees.

A two-thirds majority vote of the Council was required to earn an award.

The recipients of the ICAO Award of Distinction demonstrate excellence in a number of areas of service and achievement, including education, promotion of the profession, volunteerism and service to the profession and community, career-related achievements, personal interest activities such as sports and the arts, and other distinctions.

Their successes are visible in a combination of their professional and personal life endeavours.

The 2011 recipients of the ICAO Award of Distinction are listed alphabetically below, followed by their locality (where residence and business localities differ, both are shown, in that order).

Giacomo J. Angelini, CA - Stoney Creek / Burlington
