Saturday update on Whitman Dam Rd closure

Traffic is again moving along the Whitman Dam Rd north of Searchmont. Yesterday we reported that the route had been closed by water at mile 13. But in an e-mail to SooToday.

Traffic is again moving along the Whitman Dam Rd north of Searchmont.

Yesterday we reported that the route had been closed by water at mile 13.

But in an e-mail to SooToday.com this afternoon, a Ministry of Natural Resources official notes that "People are driving safely through this section of road." Algoma Area Supervisor Robert Pinder adds that there is still some pooling of the water on the road.

"Best we can figure is that some snow and ice briefly backed up the river. Flows are returning to normal."
