Members of Michigan’s Legislature could vote late next week on a bill to authorize a second Democratic presidential primary for the state.

As SooToday.com reported earlier, work has been underway to develop an agreement to move forward on a do-over primary.

Yesterday, Democratic party officials recommended a privately funded contest to be held in early June.

Sanctioned primary results would allow Michigan’s 156 delegates to be seated at the Democratic National Convention.

While Michigan lost its seating privileges because of a decision to conduct an early primary last January, Democratic National Convention Chairman Howard Dean has said he wants the matter to be addressed and resolved.

While the do-over legislation appears to represent a breakthrough, the Detroit Free Press is reporting that several potential roadblocks remain.

Besides needing endorsement from the Democratic National Convention, the proposed bill would probably require approvals from the campaigns of candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

Further, county-level officials responsible for conducting a second primary are concerned about their ability to organize an election in less than three months. To read the full Detroit Free Press article, click here.
