************************* Prime Minister Stephen Harper welcomes announcement of Royal Visit by Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh

OTTAWA – Prime Minister Stephen Harper today welcomed the announcement that Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh have accepted the government’s invitation to visit Canada in 2010.

"It is always a high honour to host a Royal Visit,” said the prime minister. “This visit by Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will be a celebration of our shared heritage and values which are enduring sources of pride for millions of Canadians.”

The upcoming visit by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will be their first Royal Visit to Canada since 2005.

The Government of Canada has also announced that Their Royal Highnesses the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall will make a Royal Visit to Canada in November 2009.

Further details on the dates, locations and programme of the upcoming Royal Visit will be provided at a later date.
