Pulitzer prize-winning journalist, film critic, and author Roger Ebert died today, just two days after it was revealed that a fractured hip he suffered in December 2012 was actually the result of the recurrence of cancer.

Ebert began reviewing films for the Chicago Sun-Times in 1967 and was a well-known TV personality co-hosting Sneak Previews, At the Movies with Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert, and Siskel and Ebert and The Movies with Gene Siskel for a combined 23 years.

After Siskel's passing in 1999, Ebert joined forces with Richard Roeper for Ebert and Roeper and the Movies.

Ebert left the show in 2006 after thyroid cancer surgery complications left him unable to speak.

He was the first film critic to be awarded a Pulitzer Prize as well as the first to receive a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.

Ebert was first diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer in 2002 and underwent a variety of treatments and surgeries, resulting in the partial removal of his lower jaw.

He was 70 years old and is survived by his devoted wife, Chaz.
