Former left fielder Rickey Henderson, regarded by many baseball enthusiasts as the greatest major league lead-off hitter, has been admitted to the Baseball Hall of Fame today on his first ballot.

Henderson is the sport's all-time leader in stolen bases and runs scored.

He will be joined by Jim Rice, a former Boston Red Sox left fielder fearsome hitter, who was admitted on his 15th try.
