************************* Sault College appoints new VP, finance and administration

SAULT STE. MARIE - (August 11) - Sault College is pleased to announce its selection for the position of vice-president of finance and administration.

Rich Peters, MA Accounting, CA (Chartered Accountant), CBV (Chartered Business Valuator), has been chosen to join the College’s senior executive team. 

In his role as a senior leader with the College, Peters will be primarily responsible for the organization’s financial services, financial planning and physical resources (including health and safety). 

His position also includes the role of secretary/treasurer to the Board of Governors.

Most recently employed with Essar Steel in the operations planning and finance divisions, Peters is a creative, high energy, action-oriented leader focused on the development and execution of strategies and initiatives that drive success. 

“We know that Rich will work collaboratively with us as we set priorities, identify key decision-making criteria, assign accountabilities and expedite achievement during a time of exciting change for the College,” stated Dr. Ron Common, president of Sault College. “We congratulate Rich and welcome him to the Sault College team.”

Peters has also worked in the corporate development area of Tembec Inc. and presently serves on the finance committee of the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation. 

He has served the United Way in various capacities related to finance.

“I’m excited to see the growth and change happening at the College,” states Peters. “This is great news for our community, and I look forward to helping to be a part of that success.”

Peters’ start date is Wednesday, August 12, 2009.

Currently Sault College reaches more than 5600 students annually through post secondary, continuing education, apprenticeship training and third party contract training.

Full-time and part-time opportunities are available in more than 70 program areas.

The post secondary student population is about 1,200 local and district students and 500 out-of town students.

Key Performance Indicator (KPI) surveys demonstrate that approximately 89 percent of Sault College students are employed within six months of graduation and student satisfaction is among the highest in the province.
