City councillors agreed Monday night to add a third electric ice resurfacer to the Sault's Zamboni fleet.

Zamboni Company Ltd. of Brantford is expected to start building the $162,902 machine immediately.

Delivery of the finished product can be up to 475 days after the order is received.

The first two electric ice resurfacers were approved for the twin-pad arena at the Northern Community Centre.

The first was procured early in 2022 and is currently in use.

Our second electric Zamboni was procured in June of last year, with delivery expected in October or November of this year.

"John Rhodes will be getting its first electric Zamboni," said Mayor Matthew Shoemaker.

"That is great news. Not just for the environment, but for the renewal of our Zamboni fleet, which as we know we have had significant issue with in the past," the mayor said.
