************************* Unit I election recount results

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI - The Sault Tribe election committee held a recount of Unit I ballots on Monday, June 30 upon the request of Unit I candidate Nathan Wright.

Following the public ballot count on June 26, voting results indicated Bernard Bouschor had edged Wright for the last Unit I seat by a mere five votes, 1,660 to 1,655.

According to the election code: “Any candidate may request a recount of the tabulation of votes in any primary or general election provided the margin between the requesting candidate’s vote total and vote total for an unofficial winner was within two percent of the total votes for the office being sought or fifty votes, whichever is greater, and; a request for recount is submitted in writing, signed by the requesting candidate, to the chairperson of the election committee within three days of posting the unofficial results of the election.”

The election code also stipulates: “Any recount conducted shall be the only recount allowed for any affected candidates.”

The recount indicated the election results did not change.

Bouschor will remain the winner of the Unit I seat.

The general election and recount results will be deemed official and certified following an announcement to the board of directors at the next scheduled board meeting or if no action is taken in seven days following the election.
