McGuinty government supporting innovative business ideas in Sault Ste. Marie

SAULT STE. MARIE – The Ontario government is helping a young entrepreneur start her own business and contribute to the local economy in Sault Ste. Marie, MPP David Orazietti announced today.

"The McGuinty government supports the innovative business ideas of our community’s youth and understands young entrepreneurs are critical to the future of Sault Ste. Marie," said Orazietti. "By investing in creative and talented young business people, we are helping to keep the next generation of business and community leaders in Northern Ontario."

The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) will provide $20,157 through its Young Entrepreneur Program, to help establish Adagio Advanced Aesthetics & Electrolysis, an aesthetics shop offering a variety of manicure, cosmetic application and electrolysis services.

Funding will be used to purchase a state-of the-art platinum electrolysis machine not previously offered to city clientele along with other business furnishings.

"Young entrepreneurs everywhere are showing the gumption, the initiative and the drive to succeed and build a strong North," said Rick Bartolucci, Minister of Northern Development and Mines. "Helping develop new businesses and career opportunities is critical to the long-term future and economic prosperity of our northern communities and a fundamental tenet of our Northern Prosperity Plan."

This initiative is just one way the McGuinty government is supporting northern youth.

Others include:

- investing over $8 million to date, from the NOHFC, to provide internships and work placements to help some 447 young northerners launch their careers in the North - mobilizing our Northern Development Councils to tackle the issue of youth out-migration from the North These initiatives are part of the government's Northern Prosperity Plan for building stronger northern communities.

The Northern Prosperity Plan has four pillars: strengthening the North and its communities; listening to and serving Northerners better; competing globally; and providing opportunities for all.
