SooToday.com received an e-mail today from Paul Bichler, who ran unsuccessfully as the Liberal candidate for Sault Ste. Marie during the 2008 federal election.

We last heard from Bichler (on right in photo with Ward 2 Councillor Terry Sheehan) in January 2009, when he issued a news release announcing his hiring as general manager of a new wood pellet manufacturing concern gearing up to open in the Sault.

But the Fibre Brain Company never got off the ground.

Bichler sent us the following release in his capacity as CEO of The Eco Laundry Room, which also operates in Peterborough:

************************* George Smitherman to attend Eco Laundry Room’s grand opening TORONTO - Toronto’s greenest laundry mat, The Eco Laundry Room, on Danforth Avenue will host mayoralty candidate George Smitherman at its grand opening on Wednesday, April 21. “Our facility is the first of its kind in the GTA,” says co-owner Paul Bichler. “People like George Smitherman are interested in what we’re doing because the technology is so new.” The Eco Laundry Room is located at 2741 Danforth Avenue, between Main and Victoria Park.

Clients will appreciate the Spanish-made Energy Star front-load washers and German-made intermittent dryers - both work faster than conventional machines.

The facility is Bullfrog-powered and roof top solar tube panels are used to heat the hot water.

The Eco Laundry Room even makes its own eco-friendly soap, Eco Sudz, available on site. “While the concept of a green laundry mat isn’t new, it’s only now that the technology’s available to make a real impact. That’s what makes us so different: everything from the floor, made of recycled material, to our tables, made of used materials we gathered ourselves, is 100 percent eco-friendly,” says Co-owner Brant Kelso. In addition, to being environmentally-friendly, The Eco Laundry Room’s sleek design and fully-staffed coffee bar (fair trade and organic) is changing the image of what a laundry mat should look like. “We want clients to relax at the coffee bar while the kids play in the play area. We even have free wifi. This is the kind of place where clients will want to spend time,” says Natasha Bick-Kelso, co-owner and co-founder. The grand opening will be held on April 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with Mr. Smitherman speaking at 12 noon.
