Red Cross workers in Sault Ste. Marie, Blind River and other Northern Ontario communities are participating in a one-day strike today, demanding to be paid for travel time.

Mary Susan Yankovich of Service Employees International Union Local 1 tells SooToday.com that about 30 to 35 workers took part in a demonstration at 390 Bay Street in Sault Ste. Marie.

Another eight workers were at a similar protest in Blind River, Yankovich said. Demonstrations also took place in Sudbury, Timmins, North Bay and Bracebridge.
