Red Buttons, who won the 1957 best supporting actor Oscar for his role as airman Joe Kelly in Sayonara, died today at his home in the Los Angeles area.
He was 87.
His publicist said that the famous comedian and actor had been ill with vascular disease for some time.
Born Aaron Chwatt, Buttons is ranked #71 on Comedy Central's list of the 100 greatest stand-up comics of all time.
