Rain helping to suppress Robertson Lake Rd fire

************************* Three fires were reported on October 11 and two of them have been declared out. 

No new fires have been reported since.

Kirkland Lake 19, a 25 hectare fire between Gowganda and Elk Lake, is being held.

Timmins 34, a 40 hectare fire between the Ostrom Mill site and Highway 560, is currently not under control.

Sault Ste. Marie 20 is a 152 hectare fire north of Goulais River in the Robertson Lake Road area.  

Residents are being asked to refrain from entering the area as firefighting activity is ongoing.  

The fire is currently being held.

The recent rain has already assisted with fire suppression efforts and more rain is being forecast throughout the region for the next few days.

The fire hazard is low to moderate throughout the Northeast Region.

Hunting season has arrived and fire rangers are taking extra caution to wear their orange uniform shirts and let their presence be known as they work on fires in the wilderness.

Hunters are asked to be alert to firefighting activity as they travel through the forested areas.

Will you be completing clean up of brush and woody debris this fall? 

Did you know that: Under the Forest Fires Prevention Act, the only material that can be burnt without a fire permit is grass, wood, brush or wood by-products. 

Always consider chipping or composting first over burning brush or grass.

If you must burn, make sure you know the rules for outdoor fires and follow safe practices.

If you live within a municipality, contact your local municipal office or fire department before burning.
