FINNISH HONORARY CONSUL

************************* The Embassy of Finland, Washington D.C., was the location of the recently held meeting of Honorary Consuls of Finland to Canada and the United States.

Finland has 13 Honorary Consul in Canada with some 400 around the world.

Northern Ontario was well represented by Honorary Consuls Hannu Piironen of Sudbury, Eija Peltokangas of Thunder Bay and Raimo Viitala of Sault Ste. Marie.

Topics discussed over the three days of the meetings included trade promotion, educational and cultural developments, citizenship issues and updates on changes in Finnish policy matters.

New developments and opportunities in technology, especially “clean “ technology, were highlighted.

Finland is well known as a global leader in research and development in environmental and clean technologies.

Plans are now underway for the next meeting of this group to be held in Canada in the next two years.
