PUC reports widespread power outages across city (10:10 p.m. update)

10:10 p.m. update:
PUC reports that a large tree is down in a backyard of a residence in the P-Patch. Crews are on site.

9:35 p.m. update:
An outage in the P-Patch area is currently under investigation by PUC Services. It is unknown how many customers have been impacted.

9:20 p.m. update:
PUC reports that the outage in the city's west end has been resolved.

Original information:
PUC is reporting Sunday-night power outages in the east, west and north parts of the city.

All of the outages were initially reported between 7:30 and 7:40 p.m.

"We are investigating and will dispatch crews as necessary," the utility reports.

Fire Services is responding to reports of fallen electrical wires.

An Environment Canada wind warning about the possibility of "very strong wind gust that may cause damage."

"Northwest winds gusting to near 100 km/hr are expected this evening in the wake of a sharp cold front," the warning stated.

"The winds are expected to remain strong and gusty throughout the night, easing slightly overnight into Monday."

"Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage."

Environment Canada reported maximum wind gusts of 74 km/hr around 8 p.m.

A snow squall warning is also in effect tonight and is expected to continue Monday.
