ALGOMA DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD

*************************** Algoma District School Board acclaims chair and vice chair positions

Wanda McQueen [shown with Larry Pallot] will once again take on the role of chair of the Algoma District School Board (ADSB) following elections at the ADSB inaugural meeting held on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 and Larry Pallot continues in his role as vice chair of the board.

Wanda has been with the ADSB for 18 years consecutively, elected first as a trustee in November 1988.

She was vice chair for two years and in 2002 was chosen as chair of the Algoma District School Board, a position she has now held for four years.

In her time as trustee, vice chair and chair, Wanda has served on numerous committees including teacher trustee relations, auditory advisory, and transportation and has been liaison with the school council coordinating committee.

She has acted as alternate board director for the Ontario Public School Board and co-chaired the annual general meeting for the Ontario Public School Board when it was held in Sault Ste. Marie.

It is Wanda's belief that trustees are advocates for students, parents and the public, working towards giving students every opportunity to obtain the education they will need to become independent learners, now and in the future.

Larry Pallot was first elected as a trustee for the Algoma District School Board in November 2000 serving for Prince Township and unorganized townships north of Sault Ste. Marie and was acclaimed to the position in 2003.

In the past, Larry has been a member of the Mountain View Public School parent council.

He has sat on several selection committees, helping to choose vice principals, principals, superintendents and a director of education.

He became vice chair in 2003.

The board also welcomed new trustees Jennifer Sarlo (Ward One) and Gladys Wiggins (Elliot Lake) who officially joined the board at this evening's inaugural meeting.

Trustee representing First Nations is yet to be appointed.
