Just 15 minutes after the polls closed Wednesday night, CTV News predicted a Liberal win in Ontario.

Before the night was over, the Liberals would increase their seat totals to 71, leaving the Progressive Conservatives with 26 seats and the NDP with 10 seats.

PC Leader John Tory lost his bid in Don Valley West to unseat Liberal Education Minister Kathleen Wynne as MPP.

Tory nevertheless vowed to stay on as party leader.

Northern Ontario

Early poll counts showed the NDP surging in Northern Ontario, with the party leading in six of 11 Northern ridings.

However, the Liberal vote rallied by the end of the vote count and held the NDP to three ridings in Northern Ontario - Kenora Rainy River, Nickel Belt, Timmins-James Bay.

The Liberals took Algoma-Manitoulin, Nipissing, Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, Thunder Bay-Atikokan, Thunder Bay-Superior North, and Timiskaming-Cochrane.

The PC party held on to Parry Sound-Muskoka, the party's only Northern riding.

No seats for Green Party

While the Greens didn't win any seats, they scored a solid second place finish in the Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound riding where Green candidate Shane Jolley received 35 percent of the vote to PC incumbent Bill Murdoch's 45 percent.

Finally, the Elections Ontario computer system crashed last night under heavy polling-day traffic.
