Ontario is supporting festivals and events in Sault Ste. Marie that will draw tourists, stimulate the local economy and create jobs, announced David Orazietti MPP today.

“The Celebrate Ontario program puts the spotlight on Sault Ste. Marie, drawing visitors and residents to enjoy and discover our unique region in new and exciting ways,” said Orazietti. “Through our government’s support, we are helping local festivals and events grow, creating jobs and stimulating our local economy.”

Through Celebrate Ontario, the provincial government is providing $41,625 in funding to the Algoma Fall Festival, a five-week, multi-arts festival, held annually in October.

"We are thrilled to be receiving continued support from the Ontario Ministry of Tourism through Celebrate Ontario for the Algoma Fall Festival,” said Donna Hilsinger, Algoma Fall Festival Association president. “Our season is enriched and we are able to continue to share with tourists visiting our area the work and the stories of the Group of Seven and to create new stories with artistic partnerships."

The provincial Celebrate Ontario 2016 program, helps festivals and events showcase Ontario’s culture, heritage and diversity, while also enhancing visitor experiences and increasing attendance.

Investing in festivals and events is part of the government’s economic plan to build Ontario up and deliver on its number-one priority to grow the economy and create jobs.

The four-part plan includes investing in talent and skills, including helping more people get and create the jobs of the future by expanding access to high-quality college and university education.

The plan is making the largest investment in public infrastructure in Ontario’s history and investing in a low-carbon economy driven by innovative, high-growth, export-oriented businesses. The plan is also helping working Ontarians achieve a more secure retirement.
