Governor General to visit Sault Ste. Marie

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON - Mayor Debbie Amaroso and members of City Council are pleased to announce that Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston will visit Sault Ste. Marie on Wednesday, August 29, 2012.

During the visit Their Excellencies will dedicate the City’s 100th Anniversary Flower Garden and unveil a commemorative plaque on the north grounds of the Civic Centre.

The event will take place at 3:15 p.m. on August 29.

“I am truly honoured to host this special visit by Their Excellencies during the City’s 100th anniversary year,” states Mayor Amaroso. “I encourage all citizens of Sault Ste. Marie to attend the dedication ceremony.”

“This event is truly significant for our community,” says Councillor Susan Myers, Celebrate 100! Management Chair. “The Duke of Connaught, Governor General of Canada, visited Sault Ste. Marie on August 29, 1912 to mark our incorporation as a City and the visit of Their Excellencies exactly 100 years later is a notable and momentous occasion.”

The itinerary for the Official Visit by Their Excellencies will be released by the Rideau Hall Press Office at a later date.
