Princess Auto opens its doors in Northern Avenue Plaza

'To have a space like this in a predominant area is fantastic,' says Princess Auto team leader Richard Brown, who is excited to be part of the growing plaza on Northern Avenue

Customers were lined up by sunrise and ready to get their shopping on at the Northern Avenue Plaza as the Canadian tool and equipment retailer Princess Auto opened its doors on Tuesday.

The retail chain has a wide assortment of farming, industrial, garage, hydraulics, and surplus items.

Operating in the plaza located at 248 Northern Avenue East, the Sault’s Princess Auto store marks the chain’s 52nd establishment in the country.

The store’s team leader Richard Brown says they began welcoming customers inside at 6:45 a.m. today.

“It’s been a long project but it’s great to be open today and see our customers here,” he says. “We’re looking forward to serving the Sault for years to come.”

Originally from St. Joseph Island, Brown had been away for around 25 years and was recently running the Princess Auto in Whitby before moving back to the area.

As Winners and HomeSense prepare to move in next door in the weeks to come, Brown says the plaza has noticeably become much more active.

“It’s a great opportunity to be here,” he says. “The plaza is very busy, and it’s really grown over the last 10 to 15 years. To have a space like this in a predominant  area is fantastic.”

“It’s great to see the plaza picking up again, it’s really going to be a destination spot for sure.”

Brown adds that the 36,000 square foot store will have lots of deals until Mar. 26.

Store hours:

  • Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
