Calling it a "prescription for chaos," U.S. President George W. Bush tonight vetoed a war spending bill that set timelines for the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq.

"This is a prescription for chaos and confusion, and we must not impose it on our troops... It makes no sense to tell the enemy when you plan to start withdrawing," the president said.

He added that the bill would replace the seasoned judgments of military commanders with "opinions of politicians."
