NEWS RELEASE

BISHOP OF SAULT STE. MARIE

************************* A call to prayer

During these sacred days of Holy Week 2010 in a spirit of solidarity with other Christian denominations, Bishop Jean-Louis Plouffe, Bishop of Sault Ste. Marie, is calling on the 206,000 faithful of the diocese to join in special prayers at their local parishes and in their homes for a just and speedy resolution to the devastating strike which has not only burdened the City of Greater Sudbury but many other communities within our diocese for the past nine months.

The Bishop has declared: “We know that on the day of Resurrection,'we have been raised with Christ' (Col 3.0). The Risen One is our light even when all venues seem to have been exhausted.”

Together, he asks that we offer the following prayer:

God, Father of all, hear this prayer for a just end to this strike, which is so burdening to our community.

Inspire the negotiators to return to the bargaining table.

Help them resolve what needs to be and thus end this hurtful dispute that has caused so much strife to so many, for so long in our community.

We ask this in the name of the Risen Lord, Jesus Christ, the source of all hope and joy.

Amen
