Potential exposure at Sault jail as three new COVID-19 cases identified by APH

Algoma Public Health is reporting three new COVID-19 cases from Sault Ste. Marie and area, along with a potential exposure site at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre. 

One of the positive cases is listed as 'unknown exposure' with the other two cases considered to be a result of close contact. 

The health unit is currently working to identify and notify high-risk close contacts at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre.

People who attended or worked at the jail during the following times are being asked to get tested for COVID-19 immediately: 

  • March 29, 2021 from 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
  • March 30, 2021 from 6:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
  • March 31, 2021 from 6:30 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • April 1, 2021 from 2:30 p.m. – 11 p.m.

"Until test results are available, you and anyone you live with in your household must stay home and self-isolate and call Algoma Public Health for further instructions at (705) 942-4646 ext. 3274. Phone lines will be open Sunday April 4, 2021 at 9:00 a.m.," reads the release. 

There are currently 17 active cases in the Algoma region.
