The Catholic Church's unequivocal no-exceptions ban on use of condoms is about to end.

Pope Benedict XVI says in a new book that condoms are justifiable in some cases, including when used by male prostitutes to prevent the spread of AIDS.

Parts of the as-yet-unpublished book were made public today by a Vatican newspaper.

The pontiff says that contraception isn't a central issue for male prostitutes, so condoms can be justified as a moral solution to transmission of HIV.
