BLIND RIVER – National Road Safety Week runs from May 12 to May 18 and kicks off the 2015 safe summer driving season and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) want to make sure you always take precautions while you are out and about.

Keep your eyes on the road and on other road users.

Be vigilant of your surroundings at all times.

During road safety week and throughout the spring and summer months it is especially important for drivers to keep their eyes on the road, as vulnerable road users (pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, etc.) are more prevalent on our roads.

These road users have a greater risk of potential injury or death should they become involved in a collision on our roadways.

During nighttime hours, pay special for wildlife crossing the roadway.

Detachment Commander, A/Insp. Riopelle adds that officers from the East Algoma Detachment will be targeting drivers who violate any of the “The Big Four” which consists of;

   1.  Impaired operation by alcohol or drug,
   2.  Failure to use or improper use of seatbelts,
   3.  Aggressive driving, and
   4.  Distracted driving

With the ultimate objective being to reduce fatalities and injuries on our roadways and making people aware of the dangers of certain driving behaviours we can go a long way in improving the safety on our roadways.
