Police make string of break-in arrests

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is evolving away from an incident driven/reactive to a risk driven/proactive service delivery model.

Effective data analysis is a critical component of this transformation and informs enforcement and prevention strategies, effective allocation and deployment of resources. 

Break & Enter Statistics:

2012:  878       2013: 607        2014: 476        2015: 415

However, in the fall of 2015, the analysis of statistical data identified an increase in both business and residential break and enters.

In December, a unit consisting of two officers from Patrol Services and two officers from Investigation Services was dedicated to coordinate investigations into break and enters in Sault Ste. Marie and Prince Township and respond to the observed increase in property crimes.

To Date:

15 Break and enters have been cleared by charge

24 Individuals have been charged and have scheduled court appearances.

127 Criminal charges have been laid

$7,775 in stolen property has been recovered

$ 5,260 in narcotics have been seized

The Sault Ste. Mare Police Service would like to acknowledge the contribution and teamwork provided by the Crime Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police Sault Ste. Marie Detachment, the Batchewana First Nation Police and Anishinabek Police Service during the course of this initiative.

The following persons have been charged with the following offences:

40-year-old Charles Carricato of Arbor Drive: charged with two counts of break and enter, two counts of possession of property in relation to crime, one count of possession of house breaking tools and one count of breach of probation. 

These charges are in relation to a break and enter to a residence on East Balfour Street and a break and enter to a residence in the 500 block of Pine Street; both of which were reported on December 8, 2015

21-year-old Katelin Wynne of Boston Avenue: charged with two counts of break and enter, two counts of possession of property in relation to crime, one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of possession of house breaking tools.

These charges are in relation to a break and enter to a residence on East Balfour Street and a break and enter to a residence in the 500 block of Pine Street; both of which were reported on December 8, 2015

35-year-old Jason Brown of Raymond Street: charged with two counts of break and enter, two counts of possession of property in relation to crime, one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of possession of house breaking tools.

These charges are in relation to a break and enter to a residence on East Balfour Street and a break and enter to a residence in the 500 block of Pine Street; both of which were reported on December 8, 2015

29-year-old Mark Nedeau of Atwater Street: charged with one count of break and enter in relation to a break and enter to Shopper’s Drug Mart on Second Line West which was reported on December 27, 2015. 

He was also charged with one count of breach of a release document by not abiding by a curfew

47-year-old Jerry Martineau of Bruce Street: charged with one count of break and enter and one count of mischief in relation to a break and enter to a garage on Northland Road that was reported on November 21, 2015

23-year-old Codie Roach (male) of Maretta Street: charged with two counts of break and enter and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime in relation to two break and enters on Prince Lake Road and Hill Road from January 1, 2016.

24-year-old Courtney Vallee of Chapple Avenue: charged with two counts of break and enter and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime in relation to two break and enters on Prince Lake Road and Hill Road from January 1, 2016.

29-year-old Michael Hodgson of no fixed address: charged with two counts of break and enter and commit an offence and seven counts of break and enter with intent to commit an offence in relation to 9 trailers that were entered at Johnson’s RV’s on Trunk Road in October of 2015

26-year-old Trent Boissoneau of Garden River: charged with one count of mischief in relation to damaging a vehicle on Trunk Road on September 14, 2015

50-year-old Robert Desbois of East Balfour Street: charged with one count of possession of house breaking tools and one count of possession of property obtained by crime in relation to theft of copper from a locked compound on White Oak Drive belonging to Riversedge Development

25-year-old Jody Edwards of Terry Fox Place: charged with one count of break and enter, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, two counts of theft under $5,000, one count of theft of a credit card, two counts of empty envelope fraud and six counts of breach of probation.

The break and enter is in relation to break in to a residence on Maple Street reported on January 1, 2016.

One of the thefts relates to a laptop stolen from Staples on January 13, 2016.

27-year-old Allan Smythe-Lance of no fixed address: charged with one count of break and enter, one count of possession of property obtained by crime, one count of possession of house breaking tools, one count of possession of coin operated break and enter device and one count of breach of probation in relation to a break in to Gingers Laundry on Poplar Avenue reported on January 20,2016

27-year-old Lindsey Jones (female) of Garden River: charged with one count of break and enter, one count of possession of property obtained by crime, one count of possession of house breaking tools, one count of possession of coin operated break and enter device and one count of mischief under $5,000 in relation to a break in to Gingers Laundry on Poplar Avenue reported on January 20, 2016. 

Furthermore the accused has been charged with one count of break and enter, one count of possession of housebreaking tools and one count of mischief in relation to a break and enter to Tri Laundromat on January 19, 2016 as well as one count of failing to appear for fingerprints.

21-year-old Taylor Jones (female) of Garden River: charged with one count of break and enter, one count of possession of property obtained by crime, one count of possession of house breaking tools, one count of possession of coin operated break and enter device and one count of mischief under $5,000 in relation to a break in to Gingers Laundry on Poplar Avenue from January 20, 2016

49-year-old Nicholas Pears of Carufel Avenue: charged with one count of theft under $5,000 in relation to the theft of a Makita drill from Lyons Tim-Br Mart on Wellington Street West reported on January 19, 2015 and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA) after officers located a small quantity of heroin on the accused at the time of arrest.

24-year-old Nicholas Fronzi of St. James Street: charged with one count of break and enter and one count of breach of probation in relation to a break and enter to a residence on Estelle Street reported on April 25, 2015

34-year-old Jamessa Taylor (female) and 27-year old Taylor Reid (male) of Lorna Drive: charged with one count each of production of a controlled drug or substance contrary the CDSA. 

Officers executed a drug search warrant on the 27th of January 2016 and seized 44 marijuana plants as well as equipment utilized to grow marijuana indoors. 

At the time of the offence the female accused was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be of good behavior.

19-year-old Dylan Daigle of no fixed address: arrested on outstanding warrants for one count of fail to attend court in relation to one count of assault, five counts of theft under $5,000, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, seven counts of breach of probation and two counts of breach of recognizance. 

44-year-old Brent Simpson of Ferguson Avenue: charged with one count of break and enter and one count of mischief under $5,000 in relation to a break and enter to a residence on December 13, 2015.

21-year-old Clinton Cadreau of no fixed address: charged with one count of break and enter, one count of mischief under $5,000 and one count of breach of probation in relation to a break and enter to a garage on Curran Drive on November 1, 2015.

A 19-year-old male has been charged with one count of break and enter in relation to a residence on Gore Street in May of 2014. 

At the time of the offence the accused was a young person

52-year-old John Nemeth of Queen Street West: charged with one count of break and enter in relation to a residence on Bishop Court in September of 2015

25-year-old Kristy Lee Charrette of Queen Street West: arrested outstanding warrants in relation to failing to reappear in court for a number of offences including a break and enter and robbery at a residence on First Avenue that occurred November of 2014.

In addition she also faces three counts of breach of recognizance.

23-year-old Michael Johnston of Capp Avenue: charged with 15 counts of theft under $5,000 and one count of fail to attend court. 

The initial theft complaint stems from an internal theft at the business the accused had formerly employed at.
