Police called in to investigate Knight's Inn fire

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has become involved in investigating yesterday's early-morning fire at the Upper Deck/ Knight's Inn/ Canadian Night Club.

Dan Newburn from the Ontario Fire Marshall's Office confirms that the blaze, which stated at 3:30 a.m. on an elevated wooden deck, is of suspicious origin.

An electrical cause has been ruled out.

Newburn took several samples that will undergo forensic testing.

Meanwhile, the United Way announced this afternoon that its 2nd Annual Ball Hockey Tournament will proceed as planned this Saturday in the Canadian Upper Deck parking lot, rain or shine.

Games run from 9 to 11 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Awards ceremonies will happen in the basement lounge at 11 a.m. for youth 10 to 13 and at 5 p.m. for adults 14 and older.
