Pole fire knocks out power in P-patch (10 p.m. update)

A power outage affected PUC customers tonight in the P-patch area of Sault Ste. Marie. The Elections Ontario polling station at CARA Community Corporation at 31 Old Garden River Road appears to have been the only one affected.

The Elections Ontario polling station at CARA Community Corporation at 31 Old Garden River Road appears to have been the only one affected.

It ran on generator power and candles tonight.

This is a description of an unplanned power interruption that recently affected PUC Distribution customers in Sault Ste. Marie.

Interruption Date: October 10, 2007 Start: 6:10 p.m.

Restored at: 8:18 p.m.

# of Customers: 200

Start: 6:10 p.m.

Restored at: 9:10 p.m.

# of Customers: 55

Cause

Equipment failure - failed switch causing a pole fire.

Description of area involved: 2nd Line; Sackville to Old Garden River Rd, Old Garden River Rd.; 2nd Line to Northern Ave., Northern Ave; Great Northern Rd. to Black Rd., East side of Sault College, north section of the "P" patch, Tadcaster, Sharon Crescent.

Power has been restored to all customers.
