SooToday.com has received the following note from a representative of the Sault Ste. Marie Military Family Support Group.

A previous article reported on the thoughtless damaging earlier this week of yellow ribbons that had been mounted in the downtown area.

************************* Yellow ribbons were put up along Queen Street on Saturday, February 21, 2009, in time for one of our local soldier's return home on Tuesday by the local Sault Ste. Marie Military Family Support Group.

There were two purposes - one to let the soldier know that his community had him (and the other six soldiers) in their thoughts and prayers, and two, to remind the community of Sault Ste. Marie that there were soldiers from here who were serving in Afghanistan.

Brian Nadon, a soldier with the 49th Regiment, arrived on Tuesday from Afghanistan after a 10-month tour.

There are six more reservists who will be coming home within the next couple of months.

We would like to encourage the citizens of Sault Ste. Marie to put up yellow ribbons in front of their homes to show that this community supports the troops.

This is in no way a reflection of support for the war itself, but rather the sacrifices that these soldiers make to keep our community safe and make a difference in the lives of the people of Afghanistan.
