The 11-year-old Upper Peninsula girl kicked out of school recently for dying her hair pink is back in the classroom today.

Natasha Rzanca was allowed to wear her flaming tresses today to her Grade 5 class at K.I. Sawyer Elementary School in Gwinn, about 20 miles south of Marquette.

Education authorities, who had earlier decreed that Natasha's locks were "interrupting the educational process," decided there was nothing to be gained from banning her from the classroom.

The local school board voted last night to strike a committee comprised of teachers, administrators and parents to review the issue.

Other U.P. news reported today by TV6:

- A total ban on tobacco in Michigan's 41 prisons went into effect this week. Neither prisoners nor corrections officials may smoke, inside or outside. Smoking cessation programs have been offered to inmates.
