SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – (June 18, 2008) - Two Northern Ontario community credit unions distinguished themselves at the national Marketing Association for Credit Unions’ 18th Annual Achievement in Marketing Excellence Awards competition held in Whistler, British Columbia.

One-third of all awards presented to credit unions with assets less than $450 million were won by Community First Credit Union, Sault Ste. Marie and the Anishinabek Nation Credit Union, Garden River, Ontario.

Community First Credit Union won five awards. “Our advertising starts great conversations and creates the opportunity for us to help people looking for financial comfort in their lives,” says Greg Peres, Community First CEO. “For a smaller credit union like ours to win nationally is exciting for our staff, and also for our members.”

The Anishinabek Nation Credit Union won four awards. “We are honoured and humbled that ours, one of the very smallest credit unions in Canada, would be recognized in such a manner,” says Allan Moffatt, the credit union’s general manager. “Our mission is simple: to serve the needs of the Anishinabek Nation. Winning these awards lets our people see that we’re a legitimate financial institution they can trust.”

These are the first such awards for the Anishinabek Nation Credit Union.

Community First Credit Union won four Achievement in Marketing awards in 2007.

No other credit union of a similar asset sizes won more awards in 2008. The Anishinabek Nation Credit Union is the only First Nation-owned financial institution in Ontario.

Community First Credit Union serves 15,000 members in Sault Ste. Marie and Timmins, Ontario and works toward financial comfort for all its members every day.

The Marketing Association for Credit Unions is a national 200 member organization enhancing the development of credit union marketers through education forums, conferences and award recognition.
