THUNDER BAY - (October 5) - A Superior Outdoors magazine cover photo has won top journalism honours at the Ontario Tourism awards, the province’s most prestigious tourism awards gala.

The winning photo titled “Paddling in the Lake Superior Marine Conservation Area,” was taken by Gary and Joanie McGuffin and appeared on the cover of the summer 2008 issue of Superior Outdoors.

Focusing on the area’s brilliant colours, the photo captures the serenity and beauty of Lake Superior.

“I want to congratulate all the winners and finalists of this year’s Ontario Tourism Awards. Thank you for making Ontario an attractive tourist destination for people traveling from across the province and around the world. It is the hard work of tourism leaders like these that helps to ensure that there really is no place like this!” said the Honourable Monique Smith, minister of tourism.

Superior Outdoors magazine is published in Thunder Bay, Ontario and was started by Darren and Michelle McChristie in 2007.

The outdoor lifestyle magazine blends stunning photography and compelling stories that feature activities and attractions around Lake Superior.

As stated by Paul Pepe, tourism manager for the City of Thunder Bay: “This fantastic print and online editorial delight is quickly gaining attention across the North American sustainable tourism community and is, in its own right, elevating the region as a sustainable tourism destination of choice.”

Superior Outdoors was also nominated in the travel journalism category for stories that appeared in the 2008 issues.
