************************* Canadian Blood Services partners with local emergency services Sirens for Life campaign across Northern Ontario

SAULT STE. MARIE - From May 26 to 27, local emergency services and Canadian Blood Services will be holding its annual Sirens for Life campaign.

The Sirens for Life campaign is a partnership between Canadian Blood Services and local emergency services to raise awareness and to encourage blood donation.

On average, every minute of every day, someone in Canada requires blood.

Emergency services personnel often see first-hand the need for blood as a result of the emergencies they encounter in the course of their duties.

Throughout this campaign, donors will be able to donate their blood “in honour” of emergency services workers in Sault Ste. Marie.

On May 26 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and May 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., donors may visit the Sault Ste. Marie blood donor clinic at the Croatian Hall and make a life-saving blood donation, then sign a ”In Honour” book addressed to our 911 emergency responders in the Sault Ste. Marie area.

This campaign challenges local emergency response workers to recruit the most blood.

Staff, friends and family members from various Northern Ontario emergency services are encouraged to donate blood in Sault Ste. Marie on May 26 and 27.

The true winners of this campaign will be the recipients of blood products.

Participating emergency services: - Sault Ste. Marie Police Service - Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services

- Sault Ste. Marie Emergency Services

- Sault Ste. Marie Armed Forces

- Sault Ste Marie OPP.

Canadian Blood Services encourages Sault Ste. Marie residents to call 1 888 2 DONATE (1-888-236-6283) for blood donor clinic information, eligibility information or to book an appointment.
