NEWS RELEASE
SAULT MP TERRY SHEEHAN
*************************
Terry Sheehan, Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie, spoke today in the House of Commons remembering Kayge Fowler’s fight against Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). Terry’s statement is as follows:

"Mr. Speaker,

Just four months ago I spoke in this House about Little Kayge Fowler from Sault Ste. Marie.

I spoke about his diagnosis of Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine (Pawn-Teen) Glioma (Glee-Oma) or “DIPG”, a highly aggressive brain tumor found in the brainstem, with a 0 per cent survival rate.

Mr. Speaker, it is with great sadness I share that Kayge has passed away. Kayge died surrounded by loved one’s. His last words were “I love you too.”

Kayge’s short life was powerful. His battle with DIPG has had a profound effect in my riding.

Our wonderful community rallied around the family with countless fundraising initiatives to assist with medical and transportation costs. Words of encouragement and support flooded the “Superhero Kayge Fighter’s Against DIPG Foundation” Facebook page.

Today, I will be tabling the petition his family created, to establish May 25 of every year as: National Day for DIPG Awareness, as May 25, 2018 was the date of Kayge’s diagnosis.

Mr. Speaker, this childhood cancer is the most fatal, and as such we need to immensely increase its awareness. Awareness is key for research and support. And research is desperately needed.

Thank you."

MP Sheehan also tabled a petition this afternoon created by the Fowler family to declare May 25 of every year National Day for DIPG Awareness
