Jade Jingle Bell Fun Run raises funds for Girls Run Strong campaign

Dozens of running enthusiasts laced up for the Jade Jingle Bell Fun Run -  some donning holiday-themed attire - to run or walk a five-kilometre stretch of the Hub Trail Saturday morning.

Now in its fifth year, the five kilometre run raises funds through donations that go toward Girls Run Strong, a local not-for-profit organization.

“It helps them build self-esteem, confidence and it’s an empowerment program - but building up into running a 5K,” said organizer Angela Sauve.

The last fundraising run in 2016 saw nearly 100 participants register for the event, raising $1,400 in donations.

Sauve told SooToday that people were looking forward to this year’s charity run after the annual event went on hiatus in 2017.

“It feels wonderful,” “I think that the community was really waiting for this event, and it’s an event that kicks off the holiday season and gets us willing to participate in activities in the winter.”

The Girls Run Strong campaign is aimed toward girls in grades three through five in participating schools throughout the community.
