PC candidate wants huge nuclear plant near Sault

John Tory told me: "I am listening to Ron Swain as part of our Progressive Conservative team; he is an advocate for the development of a Northern Nuclear option. When the new nuclear building decisions are made the fact of how positive a major economic engine this would be for the entire North, must be projected and on the table," said Swain.

"It's time to imagine and demand the Government of Ontario build in the north projects of this scale. A northern nuclear building and operation project would have a much larger positive impact creating jobs than in southern Ontario where the larger economy already exists.” said Swain

Ron Swain states: "Nuclear power generation in Northern Ontario was feasible in the past and now with Ontario Power Authority plans to build a transmission corridor from Sudbury to Toronto the needed capacity to carry electricity south is solved."

“In the late 70s the then 'Ontario Hydro' examined sites in the North Channel between Bruce Mines, Blind River and near Little Current. The report recommended two locations near Iron Bridge and advised a nuclear centre of 12,000 megawatts was feasible.”

“We in the north want our northern nuclear option explored and on the table when decisions to build new nuclear reactors are made, with facts of the positive economic benefits for the North,” said Swain.
