************************* Two overdue hikers located

PRINCE TWP, ON - On Sunday, November 7, 2010 Sault Ste. Marie OPP were notified of a search for two overdue hikers being conducted by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

The two males were hiking along the coastline of Lake Superior between Red Rock and Gros Cap and were reported overdue at 9 p.m. by concerned family members.

Sault Search and Rescue Unit along with Sault Ste. Marie Police Service K-9 were conducting the search along the trail.

The Sault Ste. Marie OPP Marine Unit launched a vessel onto Lake Superior to conduct a shoreline search.

It was fortunate that the waters were calm and the boat was able to be used this time of year.

At approximately 1:10 a.m. this morning the two hikers were located along the shoreline by the OPP Marine Unit.

The two males had been hiking but ran out of daylight and stopped at dark, started a fire, and prepared a lean-to for the night.

The two males were cold and tired but otherwise in good health.

The hikers were taken back to Gros Cap by boat.
