**************************** NASA astronaut Colonel Charles Hobaugh to visit Sault Michigan

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI - The Sault Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce NASA Astronaut, Colonel Charles O. Hobaugh is the guest speaker at the Chamber’s 121st annual meeting and awards banquet to be held on Thursday, February 18 at Kewadin Casino.

A veteran of three space flights, Hobaugh has logged over 876 hours in space.

He was the pilot on STS-104 in 2001 and STS-118 in 2007 and was the commander of STS-129 in 2009.

The STS-129 (November 16-29, 2009) was the 31st shuttle flight to the International Space Station.

During the mission the crew delivered two express logistics carriers (ELC racks) to the International Space Station, about 30,000 pounds of replacement parts for systems that provide power to the station, keep it from overheating, and maintain proper orientation in space.

The mission also featured three spacewalks.

The STS-129 mission was completed in 10 days, 19 hours, 16 minutes and 13 seconds, traveling 4.5 million miles in 171 orbits, and returned to Earth bringing back with them NASA Astronaut, Nicole Stott, following her tour of duty aboard the Space Station.

Colonel Hobaugh is married with four children and his parents are Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan residents Jimmie and Virginia Hobaugh.

The annual meeting will also highlight local businesses with the presentation of the historic business of the year award and the F.M. Mansfield business of the year award.

Both awards honor those businesses who go the extra mile to support our community through giving of their time and talents.

Nominees for the awards include Edison Sault Electric, Neville’s Superette and U.P. Tire for the historic business.

F.M. Mansfield award nominees are DayMakers Day Spa, Frank’s Place Restaurant and The White-Thomas Law Firm.

Tickets are $35 each and include a fabulous buffet dinner.

Deadline for registration is Tuesday, February 16.
