Our mom will enjoy Christmas because of you, Dr. Walde

SooToday.com has received the following letter from loyal reader Andrea McAllister, concerning the recently-announced earlier-than-anticipated retirement of Dr. David Walde (shown):

Having heard of your plans to retire has prompted me to write a thank-you letter.

In 2004 my mom, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and if it were not for you, our family would not have her with us today.

During her second chemotherapy treatment things went terribly wrong.

I have heard from many people that you are credited for not giving up and keeping her with us.

It was a very scary time for my family and me, but you managed to give us hope and be the rock that our family needed in this trying time.

After her recovery, which was nothing short of miraculous, you were absolutely amazing to our family.

You let us ‘break the rules’ in order to put our minds at ease.

You have been an amazing influence on the new hospital and on countless lives within Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding area.

Please know that many people are very thankful for the hard work, and long hours that you have put into your work and into your patients.

I am personally forever indebted to you for giving my family and me the best gift that we could ask for – a mother, wife, sister, aunt, daughter and friend.

We will always hold a special place in our hearts for you.

I would like to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas, and a safe and happy 2009!

Enjoy your retirement and get what I’m sure is some long needed rest!
