McGuinty Government providing boost to Sault Ste. Marie economy

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – (January 8) - The McGuinty government is providing $42,500 to help a Sault Ste. Marie company develop in-home personal training services using web-enabled technology David Orazietti, MPP announced today.

"We recognize the importance of supporting emerging technologies in Sault Ste. Marie to help boost our economy in the present and drive the next generation of local businesses in the future," said Orazietti. "This investment will support the development of innovative software by a local entrepreneur that could be exported across the province while promoting healthy lifestyles in our community." The provincial government, through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), has approved funding of $42,500 through its Emerging Technology Program to help Catalyst Fitness Training develop Internet-based conditioning programs.

"Internet technologies, which our government is helping to expand aggressively in the North, are making the challenges of isolation, distance and remoteness a thing of the past," said Northern Development and Mines Minister and NOHFC Chair Michael Gravelle.

Catalyst Fitness Training is developing a system that will send daily instructions by e-mail to participants, providing a full fitness program combining exercise regimens with food plans, massage services, psychological training, and physiotherapy.

Since January 2005, the NOHFC's Emerging Technology Program has approved over 90 projects totalling more than $70 million.
