WAWA - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wawa Detachment was advised by a local citizen of a telephone lottery scam that they had fallen prey to.

The victim was told they had won a large sum of money but in order to receive the money they had to send money.

This resulted in the victim losing a total of $1,100.

OPP contacted the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre and provided information on fraud to the victims.

If you discover that you have become a victim of a fraud or scam, contact your local police immediately.

If your credit cards or banking information are involved, notify the companies as soon as you can so they may assist you.

Occasionally checking your credit rating will ensure that you have not become a fraud victim.
